cursor icon changes to default by itself

need help after setting my themes for the cursor icons, the arrow cursor
icon changes back to the default plain white icon by itself. this may occur
5 minutes after turning the computer on or it may not change for an hour or
more, but it always changes. anyone have any ideas as to why this happens or
how I can stop it from occuring?
 
Start>Control Panel>Mouse>Pointers tab
After you select your pointer/cursor>click Apply and OK
to set and save settings.
 
unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem. doing what you suggested
resets the icon back to what is saved as "my theme", but it will not stay
that way. the icon will revert to the default when ever it decides it wants
to
