Cursor disappears followiing security updates

Following the latest security updates on my Windows XP Professional node, a
peculiar condition is happening frequently. While writing a mail or a
document file, the cursor disappears - the active window gets greyed as the
one in the background. One has to click on the window to make it active once
again. I wonder if others are experiencing the same phenomenon. Is there any
remedy for this as this is very irritating as it happened three four times
while writing this post.

What "security updates" did you install? What third-party driver updates
did you install?

Thanks for the response. Just installed the Microsoft updates from the
Microsoft site. No third party update or programme was installed.

The updates installed were:
1. Update for Windows XP (KB967715)
2. Update for Windows XP (KB961118)
3. Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353)
4. Update for Windows XP (KB959772)
5. Update for Root Certificates

These updates were from Microsoft Update site.

None of the updates you listed were security updates (so you do not qualify
for no-charge support from MS) and I'd very much doubt that installing any
or all of them would have caused the "loss of focus" behavior.

Is it a Desktop or Notebook PC, Rajiv? If a Desktop, see if using another
mouse makes a difference. If a Notebook, are you using the touchpad to
navigate or a mouse?

If a wireless mouse (Desktop or Notebook), make certain the receiver is not
located near anything electrical (e.g., modem; lamp; external HDD).

Yes, I am using Windows XP SP3 on a SBS server. The problem has occurred
only after installing the following updates last week:
1. Update for Windows XP (KB967715)
2. Update for Windows XP (KB961118)
3. Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353)
