I have IE7, XP sp2, and i can't for the life in me figure out how to turn off
the "bell" sound the computer makes when it signifies that a file download is
complete.
Also, is there a way to stop XP from asking me where i want to save a file
every time i download one? Can't i send them all into the same place
automatically?

Thanks much for your input.

The download "bell" is indicative of your use of a download manager. Windows
XP does not have a bell sound by default, nor does XP sound an alarm, or any
sound, when a download is complete.

Hi Richard,
I am not aware of any download managers but i guess it may have come via the
google toolbar(though i have uninstalled it). would you have some advice on
how i can find out where the program is ? + i am sitting on the internet,
with just norton firewall and NAV installed. ProcessMon says that (besides
microsoft progs) only these two applications are running & my page file
reading is at 480Mb constant(TMG). Is this a problem reading?( question may
make you laugh )

Hi Mani!
Open control panel then sounds and audio devices, click on the "sounds"
tab, under the windows heading the first item should be "Aterisk" hi-lite it
and hit the play button if you here the bell sound just select none from the
drop down menu and save it.
I have a wav file assoc. with Aterisk and it plays when my download is
complete.
Good Luck
