Ctrl-Z at login screen

This is something that rarely happens but in a few instances our
students/teachers start to login and for some reason switch to another
computer or do something else. They are at the login screen (happens
on Win 98 also) and they enter their username and then their password
and decide to not logon. They then backspace over their name and
password and leave the computer. Another student comes behind them and
hits Ctrl-Z in the username field and it shows that last students
username and then they Ctrl-Z on the password field and get the
password (luckily it is in asteriks). But then they are logged on as
that prior student.

Again this is a rare happening but has happened enough to warrant
looking into. It does not happen if you actually logon and then off.
Does anyone know how this can be disabled from happening.

Thanks
Dawn

I have never seen that before but you might try to change these registry keys

Open your registry and find the key for your Windows version below using
regedit

Windows 98 or Me
Open [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon] and create new string value called
"DontShowLastUser" and set it to "1" to hide the last user.

Windows 2000 or XP
Open
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
and create a new string value, or modify the existing value, called
"DontDisplayLastUserName" and set it to "1" to enable or "0" to disable the
restriction.

Windows NT
Open [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] and create a new string value, or modify the
existing value, called "DontDisplayLastUserName" and set it to "1" to enable
or "0" to disable the restriction.

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Thanks for the reply but this is already set to not display the last
user logged on. And it does work properly because it does not show the
last user logged on. What it seems to be doing is keeping the typing
in a buffer of the user who types his name but never logs on and back
spaces over the info. The user never really ever logs in. Any other
ideas?

Does the undo buffer contain more than one edit? Maybe the last student
could prevent someone from recalling their data by typing in something else
(maybe then erasing it) before leaving.
