ctrl key

hi..
normally...if I have a lot of files to either copy...move...burn to
cd...etc.....If I hold my ctrl key down and highlite files....I can highlite
quite a few...and for eg: copy them to another folder..all at one time.
Now...when i do that...my mouse freezes up and wont let me select more than
one file.
When I release the ctrl key....the mouse goes back to normal.
What did I do to my computer to warrent it getting back at me by doing this.??
