ctrl+enter does not add the "www" and ".com"

Hi:

When I type in a site name (e.g. microsoft) and then hit
ctrl+enter, the "http://www" and ".com" are not added by
the browser.

any ideas why? I've looked in the KB and cannot find the
lever to re-enable this ...

I do not have access to fttp sites, can you provide a common net
address for the correction of this problem.

My IE no longer has this feature also....
