csrss.exe

Hi,

I deleted the file c:\winnt\systems32\csrss.exe and it's
references in the registry thinking it was a virus. Now
when my PC boots up it never gets to the windows
splash/logon screen, then it reboots & does this
continuously. I booted using F8 and tried to load windows
in safe mode but this didn't work, then I tried to load
last known config but this didn't work either. How can I
fix this?

thanks

Hi,

Load the Recovery Console by booting the WinXP CD and expand a new copy of
that file from the command prompt.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654

From the C:\> prompt, run

expand X:\I386\csrss.ex_ %windir&\system32\csrss.exe

Then exit the recovery console, remove the CD and restart normally. Replace
"X" with whatever letter is assigned your CD drive.
