Following is a description of problem, however, we do NOT
have Netware or IPX loaded anywhere! Any help is
appreciated!
Microsoft WordT Hangs or Responds Slowly Displaying a
Text Item
(November 6, 2002)
Audience: All Training Manager users.
The Problem
Word hangs-up or is unusually slow after displaying a Test Item.
Description After displaying a Test, Word responds unusually slow -
taking 1 or 2 minutes to display each character as it is typed.
Sometimes, Word can be made to respond normally if another copy of Word
is loaded before signing on to Training Manager, but usually this fix
only works a few times.
Environment
a. Windows 2000 or higher
b. Microsoft Word 97 or higher
c. Novel Client software loaded on Workstation.
Solution
(The following should be performed only by a qualified technician.)
a. Backup "AUTOEXEC.NT" in the "WINNT\SYSTEM32" folder on the
workstation exhibiting the problem.
b. Edit "AUTOEXEC.NT" to comment out or remove the following two Novell
files:
1. vipx.exe
2. vlmsup.exe
Sample
The following is a sample AUTOEXEC.NT file that should only be used as
comparison to the file on your system:
@echo off
REM AUTOEXEC.BAT is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment.

Contact the software developer. You do not have Novell or IPX installed by
default with XP.
