Cross reference formatting

When I create an endnote the number appears in small, italic numbers (at the
reference point) but when I then cross-reference that same endnote later on
in the document the number always appears in a larger font and not italics.
It prints this way too. This is annoying and I can't get any cross-reference
numbers to format correctly. Any answers? Thanks

Thanks everyone, but none of this works. No matter what I do the 2nd. and
beyond instances of inserting a specific endnote as superscript just doesn't
appear as the original superscript style (small, italics). Looking over my
entire document the same situation occurs repeatedly, ie. the first inclusion
of an endnote is small italic superscript. When, later on, cross-referenced,
it appears as superscript but a larger font and not italicised. I can't solve
this. Any further suggestions? Thanks.

"add endnote style" and it works. Now I need to find all the references
throughout my doc and adjust the style. How can I find these without
scrolling carefully down every page? Thanks.

Hi ,

If you press Alt-F9 to expose the document's field codes, you'll see something like:
{ NOTEREF _Ref241926241 \h} where each endnote cross-reference has been inserted.
To re-format them as you require, use Find/Replace with:
Find = (NOTEREF _Ref[0-9]{1,})( \\h)
Replace = \1 ^92* Charformat\2
and format the Replace Style as EndNote Reference. When you've done that, press Alt-F9 again to hide the field codes. Then press
Ctrl-A followed by F9 to update all the fields. That's it.

Note: If some or your endnote references lack the '\h' at the end, simply do two Find/Replace operations: the second without the (
\\h) and \2.

Are you inserting the cross-reference as "Endnote (formatted)"? If so, Word
will apply the the formatting of the Endnote Reference style. Make sure that
the Endnote Reference style is properly defined. For existing
cross-references, you can add the \f switch manually. See
