Cropping PST File Over 2 GB

Apog

A user's PST file exceeded 2GB. Because of this she cant
open or delete mails in this personal folder. I tried to
use the PST2GB.exe tool suggested in KB 296088 but it
always gives an error " unknown error, error code:
0x80040600" when I recreate the personal folder pointing
to the cropped PST file. My 5th try is down to about 550mb
of PST. Does anybody have an idea how I could salvage the
mails.

Open the file in a HEX-editor (like Ultra-Edit) and delete some characters
halfway the file (could be anywhere actually as long as it isn't directly at
the beginning or end). Save the pst-file and run scanpst.exe to see whether
it's able to recover it.
