CRM Reviews Launched

FreeGPL.com

Hey all,

I just wanted to let you know that we've launched a new section of our
website - CRM / GroupWare Reviews.

Currently there is only one groupware application reviewed -
phpGroupWare however I'm looking for suggestions to review CRM and
GroupWare applications.

I have had a hard time installing some of the CRM suites because they
require either root access or won't operate in safe mode at all and
I'm trying to review products that don't have these limitations.

Any help y'all can give me is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Right;

The bad news is that safe-mode is a pretty debilitating requirement.
The "good" news is that we're in the same boat. Last month when you
posted, I'd suggested that you check opensourcecms.com but their forum
is pretty spotty. They still do have the widest selection of demo
packages running though.

Back to safe-mode compliant OSS CMS packages: these are the ones we're
looking at:

- Drupal (4.6.6 and later)
- Mambo (4.4.3 and later)
- Joomla (1.0x and later)
- BolinOS (4.5.4 and later)
- PostNuke (0.7.x and later)

Hi!

Nice to see that someone is giving attention also to heavy duty business
apps. :) I must warn that this may sound like splitting hairs, but in
context of Decision Support Systems, the following hierarchy has become
somewhat a convention:

DSS

- Model Driven
-Analytic Hierarchy/Network Process e.g. www.superdecisions.com
-Expert Systems
...

- Data Driven
-Business Intelligence Platform
-Customer Relations Management e.g. SugarCRM www.sugarcrm.com
-Data Mining e.g. www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/ml/weka/
...

- Communications Driven
-Group (Decision) Support Systems
-Electronic Meeting Systems
-Groupware e.g. www.opengroupware.org
...

I also jotted down the free apps that I know of. And I must stress that
this is not the Right Answer, it just seemed a little foreign to me to
see groupware under CRM, as I visited Your site :)

Keep up the good work!

Hi Craig,

I keep meaning to review OpenSourceCMS - I'll try it out this weekend.
That's a great list btw of safe mode CMS packages. I'm still a strong
advocate of CMS Made Simple. The more I use it, the more I like it
just because it is so damn simple :)

I'll add in the listing of safe mode compliant packages because I
think that will help out a lot of people.

Thanks again!

Hey Kalle

Thanks for the support and the list! I'll jump on those as soon as I
get the chance and start playing with them.

I go through these applications almost daily as part of my "day job"
so I figured I'd try to help contribute to the community by reviewing
what I've found has worked for us.

I put the groupware under CRM simply because they can be used as such
- not terribly effeciently I admit. After I take a look at your
suggestions I may be able to split it out and make two sections.

Take care!

Oh! And I just discovered that my current host has the ability to turn
safe mode on and off based on domain!

These are the features that can be controled on a per domain basis
(you get up to 25 domains per account):

PHP Safe Mode
PHP Safe Mode GID
PHP Register Globals

I don't know what the netiquette is in this group regarding the
posting of affiliate links to hosts and such - I don't want to be in
bad taste.

So on my site I have their banner down at the bottom of the page if
you're interested in taking a look at what they have to offer. That
link includes a coupon code for an additional 2.5gigs of free storage.

Take care,

Paul

rule of thumb. . .

If it's not *free* and/or it's not *software* and/or it's not *legal*. . .

It's not on-topic.

Kalle;

Can you point me to an url that discusses this convention more fully?
(Seems like it'd be a good analytical tool for my test-driving).
