Critical Updates Patches

Here is my question:
I have my saved 'name.slx' file compiled from XPe SP1. I have not yet
installed any critical updates and patches from the msdn site. For
example once I install the April 2004: Security Update for Windows XP
Embedded with SP1 (835732) fix 'Q835732_xpe_sp2_x86_enu.exe' which
inludes the following components:

Netmeeting - Hotfix Q835732
Win32 API - GDI - Hotfix Q835732
H323 Telephony Service Provider - Hotfix Q835732
Help and Support Services - Hotfix Q835732
Internet Protocol Network Address Translation - Hotfix Q835732
Local Security Authority Subsystem (LSASS) - Hotfix Q835732
32-Bit to 16-Bit Metafile Conversion Library - Hotfix Q835732
Primitive: Msasn1 - Hotfix Q835732
Primitive: Netapi32 - Hotfix Q835732
Windows Logon (Standard) - Hotfix Q835732
RTC User Agent Library - Hotfix Q835732
Headless VGA Driver - Hotfix Q835732
Virtual Display Driver - Hotfix Q835732

Then I open my 'name.slx' file, do I have to add the (applicable)
above components once again to my build/image? Or will the updated
components automatically update themselves when I load my slx file?

You would apply the patches which updates your component database. When you
open Target Designer and load your SLX, it will not automatically upgrade
your components. Many people WANT to stay on old versions for a variety of
reasons. You can then choose to upgrade your components through the menu
and it will bring everything to the most recent versions.

Wayne,

In TD-->Tools-->Options...-->Advanced page, check "Configuration Upgrade" option and it will force TD to ask for your confirmation
whenever you open an upgradeable configuration (your slx if there are new versions of components included appeared in XPE database).
