critical updates do not download

In a new Sony RS 410 computer with XP Home as installed
by Sony, a dozen or so "Critical Updates" are needed.
Most download and install readily enough. However, KB
824141 and KB 828026 repeatedly download to about the 50%
stage and then downloading fails. Nothing of those two
patches installs. Why? What should I do to get them?
After all, MS calls them "critical" so it should be
possible to get them into XP.

Look in iuhist.xml or Windows Update.log (files on your HDD) for errors
associated with 824141 and 828026, then compare them to those found at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/.
