Critical Updates for XP Pro SP2 on new laptop

A

Alan C. Brown

I am getting a new laptop with Win XP Pro SP2 preinstalled.

My old laptop has Win XP Pro SP2 with all the critical updates, which appear
to be located in 61 "KBXXXXXX" subfolders (totalling 248 MB) in the
$hf-mig$ folder, in the path C:\Windows\$hf_mig$.

Can I copy these KBXXXXXX critical update folders to my new laptop in order
to install the updates, thereby avoiding having to download the updates all
over again, which would take many hours on my 56K dialup connection ?

If yes, what procedure should I use to install them, so that Windows Update
will recognise that they have already been downloaded ?

Thank you

No. Those are uninstall files for updates. You need
to visit the Windows Update web site for installation
of critical and recommended updates.
