Critical Update Problem

After installing a critical update on June 4th 2004 I was
prompted to restart the computer, after restarting the
computer I can't restart the system I get propmted for a
safe start but that won't work either, when i try to
reinstall XP pro it says the partition needs to be
formatted, any help so I don't lose all my company
info????
