Critical Update failes to install repeatedly

On a Dell laptop I have that uses WinXP Pro, the message has been coming
repeatedly that the 2 following updates need to be installed, but they
continually fail to install: XP Security Update KB835732 & IE6 Update
KB867801. Other critical updates before and since have successfully
installed.
How do I get rid of this obnoxious recurrence?
Has anybody experienced anything like this?
