Creating new Auto-Layout templates for PowerPoint.

Airan Wright

I am looking for a way to create new Auto-Layout templates
for PowerPoint.
Specifically what I want to do is have an Auto-Layout
template that I can use that includes more than just a
Title box and 1 Text box. My problem is that I want
three "Click to add text" text boxes plus a title box
instead of the default 1 title / 1 body.

Any suggestions?

And please no responses that just say "you can't do that".
It has to be possible because one of the default templates
within PowerPoint does have 1 title and 2 body text boxes.

Thanks,

Well, I got good news and bad
Bad news - "You can't do that". You can NOT create new placeholders for
your slides (at least not the ones that say "Click here to add...".)

Good news - There is a built-in Slide Layout that does have a "Title" and
two "Text boxes". You can select that by right-clicking on your slide,
clicking "Slide Layout" and either select it from the TaskPane (newer
versions) or the dialog box (older versions). There are more options to
choose from in the newer versions (2002 or 2003). Once you have the objects
on your slide, you can move them around to suit your needs, so the one that
has a title at the top and two text boxes side by side, can be changed to
have the two text boxes one on top of each other sized to meet your needs
under the Title placeholder. Since they are already "built-in" you can use
them, but you can NOT create new placeholders! Sorry!

Hopefully this helped!

When I run into this, I create a slide (with the layout and formats the way
I want) and just copy&paste it when I need it.

Is this something that you think the next version of PowerPoint should
offer? Than take a moment to let them know.

I suppose if you work at Microsoft and have the keys to the code, you can do
whatever you like. Otherwise, sorry, you can't do that.

Easier still is to use the Duplicate feature which duplicates the
previous slide and then erase the previous text on the new slide.
