I have it the other way around by default and I don't want it. I have a
workaroud to 'fix' it. It may help you to do the same.
Here is my workaround (based on Word 2003).
1) Right click the toolbar and choose customize
2) Select the 'Commands' tab
3) Select the format category
4) Scroll down in the commands list until you find the 'Left-to-right' and
'Right-to-left' options.
5) Now you can drag and drop these options somewhere on a toolbar for easy
access.
6) Insert your TOC as usual
7) Select the entire TOC
8) Click the right-to-left button you added in step 5
Note: whenever you update the TOC, you will have to repeat step 7 and 8

I am very interested to learn how I can get rid of this default
right-to-left toc. It started after I received an email from an Israeli guy.
Since then, something in word is messed up (I use Word as email editor in
Outlook 2003).
- It inserts the TOC in right-to-left reading by default.
- When someone repies to any of my emails and my original text is still in
it (at the bottom), my complete text is right-to-left (eventhough I wrote and
sent it in left-to-right format).
