Creating an Intranet Webpage for employees

I need basic help on creating an intranet webpage that can be accessed by
employees for news alerts, stats, events etc..... I also need permission for
managers to make changes/edit the page, whats the easiest way of doing it?

As promising as Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) is there is an awful lot
to learn and a lot of work to set it up and learn to use WSS
efficiently.Trying to use the text editor for example is frustrating and
proves useless and needs to be replaced with a text editor that is usable or
people will avoid using WSS and the entire effort will be wasted. I'm
speaking from experience on this matter. Replacing the text editors requires
..NET development skills as do many other customizations. WSS remains an
unpolished jewel.
