creating a winxp boot disk for installing

I have a computer (blank hard disk, and don't have
another o/s to install first, like ME) that I would like
to put Win XP Pro on, but it won't boot from the cd, so
is there a floppy I can create that will load the
drivers, etc that I need?

have you set the BIOS to boot from CD?

Yep. I believe it is that my cd-rom drive is possibly pre-
cd boot capable.

that's not the point - ALL CD Rom drives are capable of booting.
You need to TELL your machine to use the CDRom drive as the first boot
point.
To do that you need to go into the BIOS settings on startup (see your
computer manual for how to do this) and tell it to look for the CDRom drive
first in the boot sequence.

TO BOOT FROM THE CD ROM FIRST, AND IT DOESN'T WORK. AND
NOT ALL CD-ROM DRIVES ARE CAPABLE OF BOOTING. I HAVE
FOUND THINGS FOR CREATING A BOOTABLE FLOOPY WITH DRIVERS
ETC FOR SP1 AND SP1A, AND THESE ARE BOTH DIFFERENT, BUT
NOTHING FOR THE PLAIN OLD ORIGINAL XP.
AND EVEN IF ALL CDROMS ARE BOOTABLE, WHAT THE HELL DOES
IT MATTER IF IT DOESN'T WORK ON MY MACHINE? IF YOU KNOW
OF A WAY TO MAKE A BOOTABLE FLOPPY, THEN TELL ME, ANS
STOP WASTING MY TIME. I'M GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF
PEOPLE IGNORING WHAT I'M SAYING AND THEN JUST REPEATING
WHAT THEY AND OTHERS HAVE ALREADY SAID, EVEN AFTER I HAVE
TOLD THEM THAT IT ISN'T THAT. DON'T BOTHER REPLYING

Hi,

Boot any Win9x floppy and load CD drivers. Switch to the CD and go into the
I386 folder, run winnt.exe from within it to begin the installer.

Make sure smartdrv is on that floppy and load it before running winnt.
Otherwise the "copying files" portion of setup can take several hours to
complete.

Hey, nice attitude. With a post like this, I'm sure that everyone
will rush to help you.

Just some points:

Any CDROM drive made in the last several years can be "booted" from.
The drive supports booting, but your BIOS may not. If that's the
case, fine. You can download boot floppies from www.bootdisk.com.
That took me about five seconds to find using Google. I'm sure it
woulnd't have taken you much longer than that.

Now, if your BIOS can boot from CD, and you've set it that way, and it
won't work:

1. You can't just sit there and do nothing on restart and expect the
CD to boot. All the various systems/BIOS combos I've used present me
with a variation of the "press any key to boot from CD message." If
you don't press a key within the time given by BIOS, it moves to the
next boot option.

2. You've got a bad CD. If it's a pro-pressed silver, that's hard to
believe but it could happen. If it's a copied CD, whoever made it
doesn't know how to make copies properly (I won't talk about those who
distribute pirate CD rips, I guarantee a file rip won't boot unless
the maker has some 'game').

Lighten up. If you don't wan't people to waste your time, then go
away. If you keep up like above, nobody will help you.
