Creating a Windows Update Server

Bill

Is there any package or product that I could buy that would recreate
the windowsupdate server that a user could browse too that would scan
your PC and provide the updates locally. I know about and have
looked at the SUS package but it doesn't have a user browsable
interface. Would the SMS provide this feature? The amount of
updates (file size) is cutting into my companies internet drain and a
local solution would be idea. Also we have sites that are connected
via low bandwidth connection and this makes it almost impossible to
download and to apply the updates on a large scale. Reimaging
40+ systems everytime a major update is released it not the solution.
I am surprized MS doesn't have a complete hardware / software package
that could be purchased so large companies to host there own local
update server for there users inside the compaines WAN that would
function like the windowsupdate site. If a product exist I would be
interested in more information.

Thanks

I think you may be mistaken about SUS. If you set the
client so that it uses option 2 for updates 'Notify for
download, notify for install' they would then be able to
look at and choose available updates for download and
install. Much the same as with Auto Updates.
