Creating a Rule Using "OR" instead of "AND" ???

Spudy

Hello:

I would like to create a rule that filter out SPAM using keywords
either in the subject line or the e-mail body. Then having them
deleted off the server before I even see them.

For example, the rule should look something like this:

Easy Money
OR
Sex
OR
Viagra
OR
Free Money

I can't seem to find the OR option. When I tried to create this rule I
got the below instead.

Easy Money
AND
Sex
AND
Viagra
AND
Free Money

Of course, since not all e-mails contain all of these keywords the
rule didn't work. Can anyone please help?

Thanks in advance!

First, you must know the difference between "Conditions" and "Search
Terms". A "condition" is the circumstances under which an item of
email will be acted upon if it contains one or more of the "search
terms" attached to the "conditions" of the Rule.

1) Please tell us EXACTLY which "condition(s)" you have chosen for
your Rule. What you have shown in your example are "search terms",
not "Rule conditions".
2) Just add more than one "search term" to a "condition" to OR them.
3) When using more than one "condition" for a Rule, the "conditions"
are always "ANDed", never "ORed". So to "OR" across "conditions", you
must create a separate Rule for each "condition".
4) By the nature of Rules in general, a Rule will only "fire" ("work")
if an item of email contains one or more of the "Search terms" of the
"conditions" of the Rule, so your observation of the Rule "Not
working" is only partly correct. It WILL work IF the item of email
meets the conditions of the Rule (if the Rule is properly configured).
And of course, the Rule will NOT work if none of the "Search terms"
meet the "Conditions" of the Rule, or the Rule is incorrectly written
or configured.
5) Outlook Rules, by their nature, ONLY fire AFTER an item of email is
DOWNLOADED off the Server, so you will be unable, using Outlook, to
get spam deleted off the server BEFORE it is downloaded. To do this,
you must use a product which will operate on email before it is
downloaded.

Below is a simple Rule to delete spam:

"Conditions"
[x] "With specific words in the subject or body" //Use ONLY this
"condition", or the "conditions" of the Rule will be ANDed

"Search Terms" //Then add one by one each search
term using the "Add" button (enter it in the entry line, then click on
"Add"). Do NOT add the words "OR" or "AND" to the list of Search
Terms.) If you add more than one search term per Rule, they will
automatically be "ORed", NOT "ANDed".

"Actions"
[x] Delete it // (Or, you could use "Permanently
delete it" if you don't want it to go into the Trash.)

Don't forget to click on "Apply" or "Ok" after composing the Rule.
