Create xl from a distrib list

I am running Outlook 2003 under xp. I need to create a spreadsheet from the
entries in one of my Outlook distribution lists. Would someone be kind enough
to explain how I can accomplish this task? Thanks. Bryan

Hi Sue,
Thank you for your reply. At what point do I click File and Save? When I
select the dl from the address book, it does not give me the option for
'save'. When I open the dl, it only gives me tabs for General, 'Member of'
and email address. Can you give me more guidance as to the correct
navigation? Thanks again for your assistance. Bryan.

How are you "selecting" the group? In my O2003 contacts, I just
highlight the group, and then go to File-Save As.......

I open my address book and then I select the distribution list which contains
the names of our users.

Just single click? You're not *opening* the group are you? When you've
selected it, what happens when you go to File-Save As?

Gordon,
I open my address book, and type the name of the dl in the box entitled
'type name or select from list'. When I see my distrib list,I highlight it.
Then, when I click on the File menu on top, it gives me the following
options: 'New Entry', New Message, Add to contacts, etc.

I'm still lost. If I click on Contacts, I still have to click on the address
book icon in order to bring up my dl. How else do I select my dl? Bryan

No you don't. Open the Contacts Folder. Find the group in the right-hand
pane. Highlight it.

My DL list only exists in the global address list. It is not in my contacts.
Do I have to add it to my contacts? If so, how do I do that?

have you tried just dragging it?

It will not drag. However, I can right click on the dl from my address book
and it gives me the option 'add to contacts', but when click on 'add to
contacts', nothing happens. Also, when I open the dl, there is a button for
'add to contacts', but this also fails. Thanks for hanging in with me. I
really appreciate it!!! Bryan

I'm afraid I've come to the end of my helpfulness, as I'm not
particularly knowledgeable about Exchange and Global Address Book
setups. Perhaps you might ask your Exchange Admin (or post on an
Exchange group) about this?

Gordon,
I was able to add the dl to my contacts by opening an email, adding the dl
to the TO: box, and right clicking, selecting 'add to contacts'. NOW, when I
highlight the dl in my contacts folder and click on 'save as', it does not
give me a delimited text file. I am saving the text file to my hard drive,
but when I open the file all I get is the following:

Distribution List Name: DL_Oracle

Members:

DL_Oracle

How can I save the dl as a file that I can import into excel. THanks
again. Bryan

Glad you managed it!

Thanks, but can you help me with the actual creation of a spreadsheet? If I
save the dl as a text file or export it, it gives me the above text (see
prior post). Thanks

It obviously hasn't stored the members of the group. If you go into
Contacts and open the Group, does it show all the members?

Yes, it does show all the members.

So if you open the group, and click on "File-Save As" and save it as a
text file, and then open the text file in Notepad, does *that* show all
the members?
