Our client requested we create a ppt report that contains links to several
Press Releases and Publication Abstracts (in Word). I'm able to link the
documents as they are found in our common drive, but how do we get it to work
in Slide Show View? I can put the files on CD and ship to her, but we're
stuck and in serious need of a fix.

a) How've you inserted the links and
b) What's not working?

You might try this:

On the slide where you want to insert the doc file:
Choose Insert, Object
Click Create from File
Click Browse
Select the file you want to use
Click OK

Rightclick the newly inserted object, choose Action Settings.
Click Object Action and choose Edit.
Click OK

Now try clicking the object in slide show view.
