Create new table in split database

I'm having a problem creating a new table in an existing database which is
split. If I try to create from the front end - I get a table that isn't
linked to my back-end database. If I create from the back-end, I can't
figure out how to link to that new table - it doesn't show up in the front
end . Any information is appreciated.
