create a folder WITHOUT read only file attrib

is there a way to change the file attrib from read only or archive. i'm using
xp pro
and when i try to change the attrib on a folder (that i created) it doesn't
workl. i'm rt clicking the folder / properties / unchecking the read only
box / apply / ok. when i come back and reopen properties on the folder the
read only box is still checked. is there a sure fire way to change the
attrib from read only ? i've already read the other post about using the
command prompt.-- doesn't work either

What would be even better--- is there a way to create a folder without it
having read only or archive attributes ?

Don't bother - the read-only attribute is just the way XP works. It
doesn't affect your ability to manipulate the folder or the data within it.

It isn't that the folder has the Read Only attribute; it doesn't. The
checkbox is greyed out indicating that the option isn't available. XP
doesn't apply the Read Only attribute to folders so you don't need to
worry about this at all.

If you are having other issues, post back with details.

thanks for the reply. in spite of what you say, windows xp doesn't see it
this way.
it will not let me rename the folder or delete it. just to be sure i
understand both of you, whenever i create a folder, xp automatically assigns
it a read only status and there's no way i can alter this ?

No, you misunderstand me - and apparently you aren't reading all the
other answers you've gotten to your multiposted question.

When a folder is created, the Read Only attribute is *not* *applicable*.
I don't know how much more clearly that can be said. If you are having
difficulty in removing a folder, it is for other reasons. If you would
like more help, tell us the name and location of the folder and what
you've done to delete it. It would also be useful to know your XP
Service Pack level and the virus/malware status of your computer. If
you think the computer is clean, also tell us what programs (and
versions) you've used to determine this.

It's a feature of XP. Live with it.
