Create a "back" hyperlink that resets slide animations

I created a button that hyperlinks to the previous slide and it works, but
the animations for the slide do not start from the beginning. I don't
understand why Microsoft would create a hyperlink to previous slide option
setting, if by default, it doesn't play the videos and animations for that
slide over again. Is there ever a case in which the viewer would not want to
see the slide replayed?? Is there an easy way to correct this?

There are lots of cases where you want to go back to the "end" of a
slide, not the "beginning." For example, if I clicked one extra click and
went to the next slide prematurely, I would want the back to take me
right where I left off, not start everything over again.

The workaround is that you put a blank slide before the slide you want to
return to. Set the transition of the slide to automatically advance after
0 seconds. Then, instead of hyperlinking back, you need to hyperlink
directly to the blank slide. It's very easy if you want to do it for one
or two slides, but it is very inconvenient if you want to do it for many
slides.

Thank you, but unfortunately, I'm creating numerous presentations totaling
hundreds of slides. I didn't think this would be a problem I would have to
deal with. I can see the instance where you wouldn't want to replay the
slide, but I believe more often the viewer would want to back up to play the
slide over again (and if not, would just click NEXT to proceed to the next
slide). I am using PowerPoint 2003. Do you know if there is any option that
addresses this in the 2007 version?

Quite often a presenter will want to recap the info in the previous slide.
You wouldn't want to go through all the slide builds.

In your case is vba a possible option? The code is very simple but if the
pres is for distribution vba can cause problems

If the code is very simple, it boggles my mind that PowerPoint doesn't have
an option built in for setting this (??). If your solution involves creating
a macro, it likely wouldn't be viable since some locations where the
presentations will be distributed may not have PowerPoint, and therefore will
require using the PPT Viewer. From what I understand, the PPT Viewer does
not support the use of macros.
