CRC errors blight my Canon iP2000

It seemed too good to last, my Canon Pixma iP2000 that is. It worked a
charm with an old Toshiba laptop, and I love the photo software that came
with it. But now that I have resurrected my more powerful and practical
desktop machine (running a similar Win98SE system ) , I've started to get
CRC errors (or erreurs de contrôle de redondance cyclique, as this French
language software says).
Can a kind soul suggest a trouble-shooting plan, as this repeated error is
making the printer unusable, and I need it badly.
The error first arose while printing out a long PDF document, it happened
repeatedly when the printer got to a particular point on a particular page.
I managed to work round that. But now it's happening in the middle of fancy
glossy photos, f--king them up.
I gotta feeling it's the 'puter rather than the printer, but I find these
USB devices a bit over-sensitive in any event.
Thanks in advance.

Start by replacing the cable to the printer. CRC errors are
usually caused by misclocking or noise in the communications
line.

Tnx Mike, I'll try that. I've already noticed that the computer end USB
connection is a bit loose and wobbly. What do you mean by "misclocking" ?
