crashing

hi i no this sounds silly but i got my first laptop im running internet on a
wireless conection . it keeps crashing . does anyone no of a button i can use
to end the programs as im worried i will ruin pc by shutting it down wrong.

pick Task Manager
pick applications.............end task

I would definitly be taking advantage of the warranty at this point in time
