Hi,
I have upgraded from W98 to W2000, but the system requires 100% CPU usage.
This means e.g. it takes 10 minutes to boot, 1 minute to open the Start-meny, etc.

I think the reason could be that W2000 has links left to a couple of directories I have erased "the hard way" via delete and NOT via sw-remove-fkn in the control panel. These sw/directories still exists in sw-remove-fkn, but when trying to remove them it fails due to none existing files.

If anyone knows a way to clean-up these links to deleted directories I would be more then happy.
Thank You for your help!

Have a look at your Task Manager and see what task eats
up your CPU time.

I checked, but it was no help (for me anyway)
The process "System" (PID=8) uses constantly 99%
When I re-boot the PC I think it all starts when initialising my network properties

Any more suggestions are to big help for me, Thank You

It could be related to one (or more) of the running processes. What
processes are running? Also look in the Services Manager to see what
services are set to Automatic.

Thank you all for your help and support
It turned out to be an old worm, "bugbear", which hit me during upgrading the PC
I had the network cable connected and was at the Internet with one of the other PC
That was enough to get the worm into the temporary unprotected PC

Problem is now solved
