Uninstalled Diskkeeper and still cant make dfrgntfs.exe go away in the
processes list. Also, when I try to run the regular defrag that comes with
windows I get this error message " This version of disk defragmentor does
not support running more that one instance"

Would I be doing great harm to my machine if I delete dfrgntfs.exe from the
Windows\system32 folder after a reboot before it starts running?
Should I reinstall XP over this? I will be reformating and installing fresh
in a few weeks after a motherboard and processor upgrade, so I wont miss the
defrag tool untill that time..........

Have you gone to msconfig to see if it starting up via the registry. If so
just uncheck the box.

Yeah, did that but no such thing in the startup. dfrgntfs.exe seems to take
over when the machine is idle and not running any other apps. XP wont let
the dfrgntfs.exe be deleted from Windows\system32 folder ( It comes back in
a few seconds) so I checked "Read Only" on the properties. ?????????
