CPU upgrade?

Harry Bloomfield

Hi,

My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7ZX-H presently fitted with a 1200 AMD
CPU. According to Gigabyte the fastest CPU this board will support is a
2100 Palamino. I have not been able to track down a 2100 Palomino
(.18u) either new or second hand, but I have been offered a 2200 AMD.

Question... Would the 2200 work in my board?

I have read an item which suggested AMD were developing even faster
Palomino cored CPU's, but I couldn't find any.

I would think that Gigabyte would be the expert in this
area, but if you want my opinion just off the cuff;
If the CPU is cheap enough, try it, the worst that could
happen is that you might fry the CPU and mobo. The
scientific method does involve experiments.

Check with the Gigabyte web site - all the details will be there. If it does
support the faster processor don't forget that you might need a better
cooler and fan on the chip.

my brother had a 7zxe (updated version of your board) and
it worked with .13u thoroughbred cpus. it overvolted them
and ran hot.

i would suggest finding a palomino on ebay. you can tell
it is a palomino if it has a SQUARE core.
