CPU temp increase 40 -> 65C?

Zalman CNPS7000Cu cooler
Antec trupower 430 w psu
Raid 0 36 gig Raptors
Standard ram settings, no OC

I happen to notice on boot that my CPU temp is hovering around 65 C. I
never check temps so I don't know how long this has been the case.
This machine had typically run CPU temps of ~40 C. Stable, runs
normally, always has.

The cooler feels about the same as I remember--barely warm. It can't
be idling at ~65 C unless the arctic silver interface has somehow
deteriorated and heat transfer has been compromised. I've not yet
pulled the Zalman for inspection (nightmare installation), but screws
are torqued.

USDM shows no meaningful temp increase above a bouncing 65 C while
forcing 100% CPU usage with prime95 + NAV scan. Coupled with the fact
that this mobo is notorious for dodgy sensors, I'm guessing that the
sensors have completely failed and producing nonsense, and that actual
operational temps are probably normal. System temp remains stable at
~35 C. Comments? Oh yes, V I/O is ~ 2.75V, all others normal.
Darned if I can find what normal V I/O is supposed to be.

Yes--I should have specified that the ambient temp has been a fairly
constant 70 F.

Additional note: Using CPU Burn-in v 1.0, USDM shows the temp
occasional peaking at 100 C.

ambient room temperature has remained the same?

Could be the temp reported by the sensor is bad.

I have a dual Opteron 246 rig that reports 68-71 C on the CPUs. I shut down
the entire system for 2 days once, and the temp was above 50C immediately
after boot -- way too short a time for that kind of increase.

It's been running like that 24x7 for a year now, so there isn't any apparent
problem other than the reported temp...

reduce temp offset in monitoring program for -10 deg C & you will have
IMHO proper revealing!
