No mater what program I open to work with on my desktop, Windows Explorer
ramps my CPU to 100%. And 75% of the time my Windows will freeze up. I have
to then use Task Manager to get out of the program, and that takes 6 or
better tries. I have done all the Virus scans, Spybot, Adware, Registry
Mechanic, PC Diagnostics and Process Explorer. Nothing shows up. All I see is
my CPU ramp up and the program freezes.

Will appreciate any info.....

How much RAM memory do you have? Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task
Manager and select the Performance Tab. What is the Total, the Commit Charge
and the Peak?

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on
each drive / partition. How is the drive formatted -FAT32 or NTFS. To
get this information whilst in Windows Explorer place the cursor on each
drive in turn, right click and select Properties.

What is the CPU?

What did using Process Explorer reveal?

To ascertain which service is causing the problem select the
svchost producing the high CPU usage, right click,
select Properties, Services. Note there are the full names and some
explanation of what each service does.

You will find further information on Services here:
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

To trace the particular Service involved you need to turn off each
service in turn and then restore it noting what effect it has on CPU
usage. However, you need to take care and watch what other Services are
dependent on that service. When you click on the Dependencies tab allow
it a little time to display the information.

A virus may not be the problem. However, there are other types of malware
( including spyware ) which can cause this type of problem. They can be
difficult to detect.
