CPU question

I am running XP HE SP2. My CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.1GHz. I have 1GB
of RAM.

I like to play web based games, but notice that with some in particular, the
CPU usage is between 90% - 100%. Most of the games run okay, there's no
obvious lag.

Is it damaging to run at this rate for long periods? Would more RAM help?

Thanks very much.

Jon

no it should not damage it and 1 gig or ram is plenty.
Something is running in the background to use that much cpu power.

Thanks, Jim. I've checked - an anti-spyware program uses 5 - 15%, but the
main usage comes from a game which eats up between 90 - 100%; it's a poker
application which features 'realistic' avatars.

As long as the CPU won't overheat or burn out - that was my main worry.

Regards,
Jon.

How could it? The CPU is always running at 100%. It is just that most of
the time, the CPU is caught in the idle loop and doing nothing useful.
