CPU monitors (system tray)

Ive always used a visual(system tray) CPU monitor on my 98 system just to
see if anythings "locked" or hogging cpu cycles.Im currently using cpu
monitor v1.3b5 by jon grieve, and it works well. Are there any other freeware
cpu monitors (with system tray visual) that uses little resources , and are
worth checking out?.Ive tried freemeter and the cpu monitor very often
"freezes" showing zero activity so that ones a no go.
TIA

CPU Load is excellent and I could not live without it.

Mmm..I might have been premature with my previous post jo, its showing 100%
cpu power 99% of the time.I have a feeling its showing idle prority threads
on my system :(... i liked this one to.

I dunno what it does, really; I have got so used to it over the years
that it is like an old friend. It is definitely temperamental and, as
you say, in certain configurations can give wild over estimates.

I had a look at the prog you use and it looks like a nice one too.

I put some work into finding a decent sys tray cpu prog a while back;
I reckon you end up with the one that works best for you...

Yes thats true.Iarsn taskinfo is probably the best ive tried but its not
freeware.I dont know if your interested but the prog freememxp pro 1.40
http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/
works quite nicely with the cpu monitor. As well as the obvious auto/manual
free mem settings , you can set it to popup a warning when system resources
reach any point you specify. It only uses 2 system and 2 gdi resources too
which isnt bad for the amount of stuff you can do with the prog. Its
donationware but after the one popup telling you its donation ware it doesnt
ask again.

The one I use is Active CPU (freeware):
http://www.ntutility.com/freeware.html <-- website
http://www.webattack.com/dlnow/rdir.dll?id=100440 <- d/l

I've never seen it use much resources on my Windows 2000 Pro machines. Put a
shortcut in your startup folder and set the shortcut's properties to
minimize and you're set.

I use Process Explorer. I'm running 98SE and most CPU usage monitors
will always show 100%. Only Process Explorer and Wintop appear to
show the correct usage, but Wintop doesn't have a systray icon, though
it is very useful.

TClockEx. CPU monitoring is not its raison d'etre but it does it well.
Ditto for USER/GDI resources.

Another nice one is Motherboard Monitor. Gives temps and more too.

pointing out the usefulness of tclock.

Very few "Idle monitors" work properly on a system with APM - the
effect is similar to that observed with a softcooler.

Interesting to count those that DO actually work - the only one I've
found that gives accurate results on mine is WINTOP, because that
monitors all processes, rather than just the idle.

If System Monitor (Windows Accessory) doesn't give accurate CPU loads,
very few others will.
