I have a system with a fried CPU due to a power supply short. Should the
computer power on (beep and such) without a processor? I've removed the
processor and I know it won't boot, I just want to know if the motherboard
is shot before going out and buying a new processor for it. Any way I can
tell?

It depends what motherboard you have, normally
it will not boot with memory or CPU missing.

Without memory, a motherboard will beep and the fans and such will turn on.
I'm wondering if it should do the same thing with the CPU missing.

It would be a "safe" bet that since the CPU is fried, the motherboard now may
be "flaky." Since the CPU gets its power from the motherboard, the
motherboard was the cause of the frying, unless you forgot to place the CPU
fan on.

Like I said, it depends on the motherboard.
Each act differently, newer motherboards have
little more brain and interact :-) Others will
just set there with no signal beep or displaying
any text.
