CPU "beep" every 5 minutes

B

Bob H

It just started today. Every five minutes my CPU "beeps", once. It does not
sound over my speakers, it comes from the CPU. Any ideas, suggestions? Is
it a warning? Computer sits idle and ...."beep". Lots of free memory, no
other issues that I know of.
Thanks in advance .. Bob

"Beep codes" are a method used by the system board to communicate problems.
These can vary from one brand of motherboard to the next. Commonly, one
beep signifies a problem with RAM.

One of many resources and lists codes for several different BIOS:

Hi Bob,

It's a warning. A beep from the motherboard indicates a problem. What it
means depends on the MB, you should check with the manufacturer for the
proper interpretation of your error code.

This may help as well:

Bob:-

Had the same problem, and my Guru merel;y blew some compressed
air on my MB, and the problem went away. You cando it yourself. Rake the
cover of your CPU off, and blow the dust off your chips and boards. Best of

Perhaps it was the air he blew on the CPU heatsink that fixed it. My
heatsink filled with dust in 6 months causing CPU temp to rise even though
fan was working.
