Cox offer of McAffee security suite

My 3 PCs are on a home wireless network and run XP SP3. For protection I
use Avast antivirus, ZA free and do frequent checks for malware (Ad-Aware
and Spybot). My internet access is high speed via a router using COX.

In my area Cox is now offering a free download and use of McAfee Security
Suite to its customers. Should I replace my present Avast and ZA with the
free McAfee suite? I've heard that McAfee can be a hog on resources and
slow down the PC.

Recommendations?

No. McAfee is dreadful.

For once, I have to disagree. I'm on Comcast, and they have the same offer,
and for testing, I decided to give it a try on one of the PC's in the house.
So far, its been ok, for over a year. Assuming this is the same version
that Cox is offering, I'd have to say set a System Restore point and give it
a try.

Hi Jeff,

In my oppinion you should give It a try.
Ive been using McAfee for many years, both In private use and in
professional use.
Ive also been using amny other solutions so I have the experience of more
than one product.

McAfee has always worked fine, there have been no more issue than with other
systems.
On a home computer with normal use Its definatly suitible to use, even with
a default configuration.

On professional levels Its all depending on the use of the computer and/or
server and systems thats used.
That may trigger needs to go to an advanced level of configuration with
exclusions, tweaking etc.

Also consider the professional level that you will have with avert labs,
support and above all, the price for the product.

Avoid McAfee like the plague. I've used McAfee for a few years now, and
the latest versions are embarrassing. They slow down your system like
God knows what, the VirusScan never seems to really catch any viruses,
and it's caused my Windows installation to malfunction (to the point
where I've had to format + reinstall) a few times now.

Just my honest opinion, McAfee SUCKS. What you have now is a lot better.
