Counting Cells

I have created a spreadsheet for work which lists dates an
descriptions. I need a formula that will count the particular item
done on a certain day. i.e. How many Housing Applications on 28May.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate if yo
could e-mail me your reply to this post at (e-mail address removed).

One way:

Assume dates in column A, description in column B, your target date in
D1 and your target description in D2:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A1000=D1),--(B1:B1000=D2))


Alternatively, if you want to tally more than one description by date,
look at a Pivot table:

BTW - I have fond memories of NAVSUBASE NLON. I was stationed there for
4 years with Group 2 during the 80s.
