I have two friends that had the same thing happen -- On boot-up they start
receiving a small window saying there are so many days left to put in a new
password.
Neither one ever had a password to boot the computer so since they can´t
come up with the old one the computer won´t boot-up all at the end of the
count down.
Sounds like it could be some kind of virus.

Please explain what is happening. Thank you.

If you think it is a virus then the following places are where the query should be posted...

microsoft.public.scripting.virus.discussion
microsoft.public.security.virus
alt.comp.virus
alt.comp.anti-virus

In the mean time please go to one or more of the below online scanners and perform a scan of
your platform then report back your results.

Trend:

McAfee:

(It will boot alright, only they can't log on.... :-) )

Start->Run secpol.msc /s

Under password policy, they can change whether their passwords will grow
old...

Hi Bruce,

Start/run "control userpasswords2". On the advanced tab, click advanced.
Click on the users folder, right-click the account and select properties.
Check the box "password never expires".
