My cable internet connection suddenly died on my computer
last week. The internet company says that it is a problem
with windows.. When I run my cable internet program it
says that It "could not obtain a valid IP address from
the server." Ive tried to do the ipconfig/ release and
renew and that does not work. Also my IP address has
changed to the 169.254.?.? address. Can anyone help??

P.S. I also looked through all of my error messages and
it says that I have lost my IP address lease, also there
are error messages saying the same thing but that it has
sent a DHCPNACK message. Also a Net BT (Intalization
failed) the driver device could not be created.

What is the cable ISP? Why do you need a "cable internet program"?

Unless your cable ISP is different than others, you do not need a "cable
internet program" to connect to broadband cable. All you need is a
working connection set to DHCP (obtain address automatically). Open the
connection you use and select TCP/IP properties. Check that Obtain an
address automatically is set. If it is then there is another problem.
Download copies of lspfix.exe and winsockxpfix.exe. Google for both.
Run each in default mode. Shut down. Remove the power from the cable
modem for perhaps five minutes (much less should be required). Restart
the modem. After it has booted, start your computer. See if you now
have a connection.

The Cable Internet Program is to fix and repair problems
with the internet. Sorry I should have made that more
clear.

The problem is system level and, frankly, I have no confidence in these
programs to fix the problem. Did you follow the suggestions I made?
