Corrupting features, any improvement in 2007?

I seem to always read about how there are just certain features that you
should avoid in word because sooner or later they are likely to result in
corruption. For instance, the document map (which i love, despite the
warnings against it) and master documents...

I was just wondering if these features are any more safe in 2007... what
about other features? (I can't think of any other problematic features right
now).

Anyway- I'm just curious

I've never seen/heard of Document Map causing problems. I've never had any
problems with it -- not in previous versions and not in Word 2007.

The master documents feature in Word 2007 is very safe -- as long as you
don't use it. ;-) Unused, it won't cause any corruption. It's only when you
try to use it that you get into trouble. Like a bomb, it's perfectly safe.
Just make sure you don't light the fuse.

Alas, numbering is still a problem, also, in Word 2007.

On the bright side... documents saved in Word's new .docx format do actually
appear to be somewhat more robust than the .doc format. I've been working
with Word 2007 for well over a year (many stages of beta) and have never
encountered a corrupted .docx file.

Also... Word 2007 seems to be a bit better at fixing broken .doc files. On
many occasions, I've been sent corrupted .doc files that previous versions
of Word could not open, and Word 2007 has managed to open them and fix
whatever problems they had... simply by opening and resaving.

I've also have many fewer problems with Word 2007's new equation editor than
I had with the equation editor(s) from previous versions.

Macros are also easier to run because there's now a Trusted Locations
feature. It's now a whole lot easier to get macros you trust to run. I
suppose, at the same time, if your trust is misplaced, this could get you
into trouble. But, what's life without the occasional risk to spice things
up? ;-)

Document Map is not a threat to those who (a) use heading and outline levels
properly or (b) don't mind having Word try to read their minds. See
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/DocumentMap.htm for an explanation of what
can go wrong. I think that disabling "Define styles based on your
formatting" probably helps with this.
