Corrupted MBR

Twice I appear to have a corrupted the MBR after my PC comes out of
hibernation mode. When I try to boot up I get "A Disk Read Error Occurred"
and "Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart" messages so Windows never boots up. I
have tried to fix this using the Repair Console and the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT
commands but the problem remains. When running FIXMBR a message "this
computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master boot record" is
displayed. Even after rewriting the MBR and executing FIXMBR again this
message appears. Has anyone seen this problem and have a solution?

The original poster should, for a start, not use hibernation because when
you DO get a corrupted hibernation file it can stop the machine booting.
