Corrupted "mailto" registry entry?

R

Robert Stanley

I'm trying to tweak a new laptop, and want Outlook (not Outlook Express) to
be my default e-mail program. I have selected it as such in internet options
programs, and in Outlook itself.

However, when I click a "mailto" link in Explorer or Firefox, it opens a new
message in Outlook Express.

I think the registry is corrupted (entry for mailto/shell/open/command is
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /mailurl:%1.

I know enough about checking things in the registry to know I'm potentially
dangerous messing with this. Any advice on how to really make Outlook my
default email program all around?

Thanks.

I found a non-registry edit trick: I reinstalled Outlook and then installed
the online updates and restarted.

Problem solved.
