Can anyone help. Some of the Icons on the desktop and my computer have
become corrupted eg a mix of two or more icons are altogether the wrong
icon. If I go to "change icon" in properties it shows the correct icon is
selected, but on clickin OK it jumps back to the old ICON.

Doing a system restore to before the problem does not fix it.

To clear the icons cache make sure you can view hidden files and then open your
Windows directory in Explorer and delete the file called "ShellIconCache".
When you restart Windows the icon cache file will be automatically recreated.
To delete the ShellIconCache:
1. At a command prompt, change to the %SystemRoot% folder
2. Remove the hidden attribute from the file: type attrib -h shelliconcache and
press ENTER.
3. Delete the file: type del shelliconcache and press ENTER.
4. Logoff and back on and the default icons should be restored.
