corrupted file

today win xp will not bootup

got a message that a file NTOSKRNL.EXE. was corrupted and
or missing loaded win xp onto another partition to copy a
new file but with no possative results also fust before
this another file hal.dll was also missing and or
corrupted was able to copy a new file into the system32
file

my question is what do now also can i reload win xp onto
the original partition with out loosing all my files and
settings
