Hi

i'd really appreciate any help
first time i have experience this particular problem

i have a slave drive, no OS on it just formatted NTFS, only a few months
old, drive label
was WORKSLAVE

suddenly whilst trying to access it i got an error

D:\ is not accessible
The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable

I rebooted and then noticed that the drive label had changed to LOCAL DISK
I have a backup but it's 2 weeks old :-(

Is there anyway i can get data off that drive, there is nothing physically
faulty with the drive,
ran seagate disk utilities etc, all reports fine except for the NTFS file
structure

is there a way to repair the file structure without losing the data or any
other way to solve this
or access the drive short of formatting ?

thanks !

Have you tried running CHKDSK? Right click on the drive icon and select
Properties->Tools->Error checking Check Now button. Select both boxes and
then OK. Restart the computer if prompted to do so.

However you may need to use a thirdparty file recovery program to pull lost
data off the drive . Try this it is freeware and works quite well

then ran it from a cmd prompt and got the message

unable to determine volume version and state: Chkdsk Aborted

I think there's a good chance a program called Spin Rite can fix it.

Go to GRC.COM.

It's not free, but it's a real hdd recovery tool, the new version will do
ntfs.
