I have an HP media center PC that Hp tells me has a corrupt CMOS and
will not restore from backup DVD/CD. It says not for this model Compaq
PC. Is there a way to alter the restore DVD to not search for a certain
model. I will not pay for a new install cd, or ship to HP dealer. I
would rather run a bootleg install.

The CMOS has nothing to do with Windows - it is a hardware
device. Remove the motherboard battery for ten minutes to
clear the CMOS, then restart your PC. If this does not fix
it, take the PC to your PC dealer.

Hi,

You can't alter the restore disk. However, as long as it is the one that is
appropriate for that machine, then clearing the CMOS will likely fix it. If
you've replaced the motherboard or are using the restore media from a
different machine, then it will not work.
