correcting local area connection system tray alert

At one time I had my laptop connected to the internet with an ethernet cable,
but for some time I've been running a wireless router (Linksys) in my home. I
continuously have an alert in the system tray that says a local area network
cable is disconnected. I can't seem to clear this out, and I like to have a
tidy system tray so this is very annoying. How do I get this alert to go away?

go into Network Connections thru CntlPanel or off Start/Settings as
well, you can disable the icon at bottom of page after rt click on the
connection/change properties.
